What people are saying about Meg:
“Libraries, schools, and neighborhoods. Meg has always been there for us.”
- Gary Thaden
Former Member, Minneapolis Library Board | “Meg is a solid citizen. She is honest. She is passionate about whatever she does.”
- Kata Novak
Lyndale | “Meg has an incredible record of accomplishments. She ‘gets it,’ and she gets it done.”
- Vivian Mason
Former Member, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board |
“Meg
has deep roots in the neighborhood and a strong understanding of
zoning, development, school, business and neighborhood issues. That
understanding, combined with her ability to listen and her focus on
customer service, will make her an effective and responsive city
representative.”
- Lisa McDonald
Tenth Ward Council Member 1994-2002
"Meg
is a smart, knowledgable, and a tireless advocate for the 10th ward.
Her years of experience as a home owner, business owner, and
neighborhood leader make her uniquely qualified to serve as the 10th
Ward Council Member. She'll bring humor and resolve to the challenges
ahead, she'll listen, she'll communicate, and she'll serve us well."
- Cheryl Hagen
"Meg Tuthill was an important force in the creation of the Lowry Hill
East Neighborhood Association, and in 1971 served on its very first
board. Through her efforts, the neighborhood was chosen as
a demonstration area for the Governor's Community Crime Commission
program, which developed strategies for dealing with crime to be used
by neighborhoods throughout the
city. Years later, Meg's concern for her
community has not diminished! "
- Dick McChesney
"For longer than the twenty years I have lived in Lowry Hill
East, Meg Tuthill has been working to preserve the mix of multifamily
and single family homes that make this a unique and diverse
neighborhood. In 2002 Meg served tirelessly on a City Council
created taskforce to review the neighborhood's zoning. Meg
was a quiet leader and constant contributor: walking the neighborhood
to survey existing housing, meeting with City Planners, attending
neighborhood meetings, and doing the hard work to create a
neighborhood plan overwhelmingly supported by the residents.
Most importantly, the plan Meg helped create addressed the critical
issue identified by the neighborhood planning process - how to
make City zoning responsive to the neighborhood's critical issue:
preservation of the dwindling number of 100-year-old homes that
made the neighborhood unique."
-Steven Prince
"For years, Meg has been an untiring supporter of Minneapolis Public
Schools, and particularly her neighborhood school, Jefferson.
Although Meg's three children attended Jefferson years ago, she
continues to volunteer and contribute at Jefferson because Meg
understands that strong community schools make strong
neighborhoods. Meg chaired the neighborhood NRP youth and
education task-force for several years, and served on a school
committee focused on converting Jefferson from a middle school to an
elementary school in the 1970s.
Meg helped organize the neighborhood response to the District proposal
to close Jefferson a couple of years ago, and she made sure every
Jefferson parent and student who attended the School Board hearing had
a blue balloon to create a strong visual presence. More recently,
Meg volunteered to supervise special education students in a
neighborhood work program, and volunteered in their 6th-8th grade
special education class two hours a week to tutor in reading and
math. Meg has stayed involved, attended School Board meetings,
encouraging neighborhood families to attend their neighborhood schools,
and met regularly with school parents, teachers and administrators for
a simple reason: she cares."
-Ray Aponte
"Meg was a great supporter of Jefferson School when my children were
students there. She volunteered regularly. She
donated to school parties and the annual carnival. I
remember attending several meetings with Meg - what she had to say
was invariably intelligent, respectful and to the
point. Meg's comments always managed to balance the needs of
children in the schools, community members and taxpayers. "
